The Anne Frank House was founded in 1987 as a community service project of the Adas Israel Congregation at the urging of the late Reverend John F. Steinbruck, spiritual leader of DC's Luther Place Memorial Church. A leading voice locally and nationally for the homeless, Reverend Steinbruck inspired the diverse consortium of shelters and services for homeless women and their families in DC now known as N Street Village.

Our first project was a group house for five women with chronic mental illness that Anne Frank House operated for 12 years in a rental property. Today we house 12 men and women, each in their own apartment, in Wards 3 and 4.  Anne Frank House owns some of the units and rents others.

2020:  What a Year!

The Anne Frank House has a Thanksgiving tradition treasured by board members and residents alike.  Each board member makes a special dish and together we package the food for delivery.   The meal is bountiful and delicious.

This year, packaging together wasn’t an option.  Yes, we all cooked but Steve and his family did the packaging.  Thank you, Steve.
