| Tzedakah is the act of giving. Tzedakah literally means righteousness in Hebrew. In the Bible, tzedakah is used to refer to justice, kindness, and ethical behavior. In post-biblical Hebrew, tzedakah also refers to charity, giving to those in need.
Certain kinds of tzedakah are considered more meritorious than others. The most meritorious is considered “enabling the recipient to become self-reliant,” which is what we strive to do through our mission and activities:
- To combat homelessness by providing permanent housing and necessary services to individuals who otherwise could not rehabilitate themselves, but for the housing and support provided.
- To provide housing at a nominal cost.
- To increase the number of residents we serve each year by expanding our housing inventory and increasing our resources.
- To make a difference and improve the world around us by helping people in dire circumstances.
- To enable our residents to become more self-reliant and independent.
